What’s on in Gauteng: 9 to 15 June 2017

A comedy and entertainment night for a good cause, a proudly South African stage production, a children’s book fair and we meet our favourite Transformers characters. All this in Gauteng this week.

Comdigety Dog – Comedy Evening and Live Entertainment

9 June

A night of laughter, dinner and entertainment, all for a good cause. Head to CedarWoods of Sandton hotel, restaurant and conference venue in Johannesburg for the Comdigety Dog – Comedy Evening and Live Entertainment on 9 June 2017.

The evening will have a silent auction, acoustic music and a comedy line-up that will feature comedians Chris Forrest, Hannes Brümmer, Ebenhaezer Dibakwane, Mojak Lehoko, Warren Robertson and Nqoba Ngcobo. The night will end with dancing and dinner. All profits go to the Tshepang Care Centre for orphans, vulnerable children and the needy in Tembisa and to the Malaika Orphanage Centre, with a branch in Hillbrow.

Early-bird tickets cost R295 and regular admission is R395. You can also make a donation of R50 or R100 by buying a donation-only (non-entrance) ticket.

Transformers Animatronics Exhibition

10 June to 15 October

We get to meet our favourite characters from the famous Transformers franchise. The Transformers Animatronics Exhibition will be at Centurion Mall in Centurion, Tshwane, from 10 June until 15 October 2017.

The exhibition, presented by Expo RSA, will be a place to learn about the Transformers history and the little ones can look forward to playing with their favourite Transformers toys and meet human-sized replicas of their favourite Transformers characters and more. 

Ticket costs range between R80.75 to R135. There are family packages available as well.

Africa Umoja

14 to 25 June

After successful tours globally, the famous Africa Umoja – The Spirit of Togetherness is back in the country. You can catch it at the Soweto Theatre in SowetoJohannesburg, from 14 to 25 June 2017.

The two-hour production comprises music, dancing and storytelling that encompass different periods and styles in South African culture and entertainment. These range from traditional music and dancing, gumboot dancing and drums to Sophiatown-inspired numbers and kwaito, too.

Get your tickets, costing between R100 and R120, with tickets for a special preview performance on 14 June available for R50.

South Africa’s Children Book Fair

15 to 18 June

The annual South Africa’s Children Book Fair is back this month at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, from 15 to 18 June 2017. 

This entertaining educational event bringing together authors, publishers, illustrators and other role players is all about nurturing children's imagination and fostering a love for reading. Look forward to interactive workshops, competitions, book signings, storytelling and more over the four days. Activities will start at 9am and end at 5pm daily.

Ticket costs range from R20 to R50.
