What’s on in Gauteng: 21 to 27 April 2017

Royalty is coming to Gauteng this week, while we go down memory lane with Leo Sayer and a play about the famous Sophiatown.

Sophiatown

31 March to 14 May

A musical play about the historical South African suburb, Sophiatown is on at the Market Theatre in Newtown, Johannesburg until 14 May 2017.

The play – directed by Malcolm Purkey – is about the famously defiant and vibrant town that broke divisive apartheid laws by having residents of all races living together. The memorable music and art that came out of the suburb is also an unforgettable part of its history, and will be showcased in a show that runs for almost two hours, with a 15-minute interval.

Shows start at 8pm, but Wednesdays and Sundays have extra 3pm shows.

Tickets cost between R130 and R215. For group bookings, call Anthony Ezeoke on +27 (0)11 832 1641 or +27 (0)83 246 4950.
