What's on in Gauteng: 19 to 25 May 2017

If you enjoy your wine, whisky and beer, you'll like the events in Gauteng this week. And for fashion lovers, Soweto Fashion Week is back with fashion for the 2018 autumn/winter season.

The Beer Run

20 May

The Beer Run takes place at Riversands Farm Village in Midrand, Johannesburg, on 20 May 2017. The point of this run is self-love, self-expression, good people and good beer.

The 5km run has five stops called “Dehydration Stations” where runners can rest and enjoy beer, music and a chill area, before continuing on their way.

The Beer Run starts at 8am.Tickets range from R125 to R300, and include the run, the obstacle course, five beers and other goodies.

Soweto Fashion Week – AW18 Collections

24 to 28 May

The Soweto Fashion Week – AW18 Collections will be showcased from 24 to 28 May 2017 at the Soweto Theatre in Soweto, Johannesburg.

This fashion event is a platform for local designers to showcase their wares. Some of the designers to look forward to this year are VOHNI COUTURE, Deja vu Designs and X Foray. The events will end at 11pm each night.

Tickets cost R80 for general access and R500 for VIP access, which includes catering.

Kaya FM Wine & Malt Whisky Affair

25 and 26 May

Quickly becoming a tradition, the Kaya FM Wine & Malt Whisky Affair is back at Hyde Park Corner in Sandton, Johannesburg, on 25 and 26 May 2017.

Wine and whisky connoisseurs will be able to enjoy selections from more than 25 wine farms and 20 whisky houses. Look forward to trying established and upcoming labels from M’Hudi Wines and Ses'fikile Wines, various brands from Diageo and The Pogues Irish Whiskey. This year, a new feature is the introduction of four gin tables.

Tickets cost R250 per night.

Gin-tasting evening

25 to 27 May

The SA Gin Society is hosting a series of gin-tasting evenings at The Brazen Head Irish pub and restaurant in Sandton, Johannesburg, from 25 to 27 May.

There will be six local and international gins on offer, and the tasting session will also involve learning about the gin-making process. Proceedings will kick off at 6pm.
