It’s the first weekend of the month of love, and there are some great music events lined up. If you’re looking to let your hair down, then these are for you.
Jozifest 2012
Get set for the party of the year
Enjoy 11 international acts and more than 40 of South Africa’s most-renowned performers at Jozifest 2012 in Newtown this weekend. The two-day festival also features the Jozifest Market, Jozifest Carnival and an art/design/video/photography exhibition.
There will be four stages where you can enjoy South African favourites such as Die Antwoord, Fokofpolisiekar and 340ml, among others. International acts include Grooverider and Sub Zero from the United Kingdom, and Eligh from the United States. Town Hall, Carfax, the Woods, the Mills and the Street are getting together to bring you one of Johannesburg’s biggest parties yet, while the Jozifest Market will see to any hungry revellers.

The Phantom of the Opera
Fall in love with one of the most popular plays of our time
One of Broadway’s longest-running musicals is on at Montecasino. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera has played to more than 100-million people in 149 different cities around the world. Based on the French novel, Le Fantome de L’opera, it tells the story of a disfigured musician haunting an opera house who falls in love with a soprano.

Judith Sephuma: A legacy – live
Judith Sephuma live at the LyricJazz Rendezvous
South African jazz musician Judith Sephuma will be bringing her soulful brand of jazz to the Lyric Theatre when she records a live DVD. This sophisticated vocalist won the Best Jazz Vocalist award in 1999 at the Old Mutual Jazz into the Future competition, and later signed with Sony BMG. She will be performing her favourite hits at this not-to-be-missed show.

Zahara
SA sensation ZaharaMusic Review
South Africa’s latest singing sensation, Zahara, will be performing live for the first time at Emperors Palace this weekend. She will be singing her biggest hits, including smash-hit Loliwe. The soul sensation was born in the Eastern Cape and her mix of soul, folk and traditional music has secured her as one of South Africa’s favourite singers of the 21st century.
