What’s happening in Gauteng this weekend – 10 to 12 February
A big one this weekend is the exciting Jozi Film Festival, on for the first time in Gauteng. You can also support a charity at the Love Pugs Day or let your hair down at the Campus Invasion tour.
Jozi Film Festival 2012
Enjoy brilliant films about Johannesburg
The festival will showcase films created by Johannesburg- and Gauteng-based filmmakers, and also allow local and international filmmakers to share their stories about the city. Organisers hope to attract a much wider audience – especially those who don’t usually attend film festivals. The festival also aims to capture the energy and creative vibes in Jozi, and encourage residents to see their city as a hub for meeting new people and enjoying unique experiences. New filmmakers will have the chance to network with industry professionals at the event. There will also be a Q&A session with filmmakers, and a workshop.
The Wits School of Arts Film and TV Division has helped to promote the festival, and will provide technical support and host a series of seminars between screenings.
Running over three days, the festival will also feature a short film festival and a student festival. Competition categories include Best Feature Film, Best Fiction Short and Best Student Film, among others; the winner of the Audience Choice Award will enjoy an all expenses paid dinner for six at the trendy Darkie Café.
