Street Cred Johannesburg 2011
Join the movement and be part of Street Cred (Str.Crd) 2011 – the only street-culture showcase event in Africa. Str.Crd celebrates urban culture and youth interests and will be held on 24 September in the Maboneng Precinct, Fox Street side, in Johannesburg.
Str.Crd is being launched with an exciting blogging exposé – so even those not living in Gauteng can be part of it. Follow the blogs of Mzansi’s Most Popular, where four blogging crews from Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg will simultaneously duel it out on the web to see who can gain the most followers and be crowned the most prolific street bloggers. Additional exposure on Sony Max DStv channel 126 (www.sonymax.co.za), Motribe and Mahala.co.za will give the teams a massive boost in their battle for supremacy as the competition takes each city’s brand of urban cool to a nationwide audience. Each team gets its own wordpress website at www.strcrd.com, and its own Motribe mobisite at www.strcrd.mobi. Each team uses Facebook, Twitter and their own individual blogs, as well as SonyMax and Mahala.co.za and any number of unorthodox street-style guerrilla activations in their own city, to drive followers to these two platforms. Votes only count on the two Str.Crd platforms.
Whoever gets the most followers overall wins the competition and walks off with the title and a R45k cash prize, and whoever gets the most followers on Motribe wins a brand-new iPad for each blogging team member.
Enjoy entertainment from international artists like Theophilus London, Va$htie and DJ Masta Lee. Local music acts include the BLK JKS, Khuli Chana, Desmond & the Tutus and many more.
Activities at this year’s Str.Crd include streetball, skateboarding, graffiti installations and BMXing.
The Str.Crd Sessions bring keynote speakers from the street industry to discuss street smarts versus book smarts and how they turned their love for street culture into commercial success stories.
Hgh.Str Fashion will be showcasing the latest and hottest sneaker and apparel brands from the Brics countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and SA), while Heritage Day apparel will include customised caps celebrating the culture and heritage of all nine provinces, which will be on display along with Nash Money x Str.Crd customised sneakers depicting the 11 official cultures. And don’t forget to do your bit for charity by donating your second-hand shoes to our KICK.BIN initiative and get free access to the event.
