Gin on The Strip

Greenside's Gleneagles strip (also referred to by regulars as, simply, The Strip) has become an after-dark hub of note.

A popular choice for many Jozi locals to see in the weekend is to “hit The Strip” and experience the vibrant, trendy bars, restaurants, cafés and shops.

Gin's DJ booth is a quirky work of art
One of The Strip's gems is a small bar-café-club called Gin. If you're in the mood for dancing, or a plate of chips (covered in a delicious, sticky, sweet balsamic vinegar reduction), put Gin on your to-do list when visiting Greenside. Inside the small, unassuming venue, the unique décor and mysterious lighting are a treat - Mondrian-style blocks of colour and delightfully strange illustrations line the narrow room; the DJ booth is a transparent glass box bathed in neon blue light and filled with strips of black-and-white photos attached to white string. The effect is fun, quirky and creative.

If you're not dancing, chatting with friends over cocktails at the bar or tucking into a tasty snack, just enjoy the vibey atmosphere.

Gin only starts to fill up later in the evening, when tables are pushed aside to make room for an intimate dance floor. If you're into indie rock, old-school hits, college party songs, local favourites and the odd bit of drum'n’bass, you won't be disappointed.

Keen to relax and catch up with friends? The upstairs balcony and a small outdoor section will provide some relief from a busy dance floor and noisy banter at the bar. If you're in need of comfort food, Gin offers a variety of pub fare and contemporary cuisine.

The bar is sometimes difficult to reach when the crowds arrive, but Gin's cocktails are worth the wait!
