Fantastic fun at the fair

The Ferris wheel
It’s been a while since I visited one of those old school fun fairs, like those you see in the movies, where families stroll about hand in hand, and entrance fees are non-existent but candyfloss is aplenty.

On Friday 27 January, my family and I ambled off to such a fair on the corner of Atlas Road and Finch Street in Atlasville, Boskburg. Immediately we all headed for the gigantic Ferris wheel, illuminated and inviting. What a pleasure to have a bird’s eye view of my neighbourhood.

Then as much candyfloss and popcorn as we could muster gave us the energy for every ride from swings and beetle-shaped cars to horses. By then I was feeling ever so adventurous and attempted the rather daunting Hammer, that swings you around vertically, stopping at certain points to leave you hanging upside down, suspended in the air. I’m still stiff but have no regrets.

I also had the chance to release some traffic frustration in the bumper cars.

It was a fabulous evening that cost our family of seven R200 in total.

The fair runs until 5 February from 18h00 until 22h00 daily. Entrance is free and tickets for the rides are R10 each, free for children aged five and under.
