The annual Johannesburg-based festival has been running since 1993 and is dedicated to showcasing the best and most innovative of the South African arts. The festival is well known for its diverse array of events, and its entrance policy – some events are free, others low priced. Last year, it drew almost 75 000 people.
This year, festival-goers can look forward to a full line-up of music, dance, theatre, comedy, poetry, film, art and design. There will also be a number of exhibitions and workshops on offer throughout September.
The 2011 Arts Alive programme boasts a number of exciting festival events, including the seventh Soweto Wine Festival, the art- and design-inspired CIT:Y Festival, the urban cultural Streetpop Festival and lots more.
