Dog owners know the scenario… a holiday is long overdue, but what about your pooch? You can’t imagine leaving him behind. Many dogs are also not accustomed to kennels, while others suffer from separation anxiety. So while kind neighbours have offered to “dog sit”, it’s just not an option.
The pet-friendly, self-catering accommodation offered at Saamrus is the perfect solution. Just an hour out of Johannesburg, it’s situated on 500 unspoilt hectares at the foot of the Magaliesberg mountains.
There are a number of rustic cottages to choose from – some at the bottom of a hill surrounded by woodland and others high up on the hill with incredible views and only accessible by 4x4, diff-lock bakkie or on foot! If you arrive in a sedan, it’s a walk of between 200m and 400m. But not to worry, friendly Saamrus staff will help you with your luggage. And the view is truly worth the exercise!
Saamrus is run by a husband and wife team, ex-Joburgers with a collection of furry friends themselves, who have thought of everything to make you and your pets comfortable.
All the cottages have an enclosed garden to keep your best friend safe while you braai or enjoy a sundowner on the deck.
Enjoy long walks in the bush with your dog, picnic next to the river among the trees, or do a three-hour hike up the hill to the border of the neighbouring game reserve, encountering ancient Tswana kraals along the way.
You are also sure to see some of the abundant birdlife and wildlife, like duikers, kudu, warthogs and dassies.
Saamrus is a pet-friendly haven where you can forget about the city and unwind in the middle of nature with your best friend at your side.
