Opened in 1995, Niki’s Oasis is one of the longest running cafes and live music venues in Johannesburg’s Newtown cultural precinct. Just over the road from the famous Market Theatre, Niki’s is perfectly located for dinner or lunch before or after a visit to the theatre and is also conveniently situated for visiting Newtown's museums.
On the menu you’ll find classic South African fare like mogodu (tripe), mngqusho (samp and beans), oxtail and potjiekos served with pap. Owner Nikiwe Rwaxa is a jazz fan and the walls of her simple cafe are covered with old pictures of jazz greats. The cafe regularly hosts live music and poetry events with talented local musicians, and Niki’s certainly attracts an artistic and bohemian crowd.
