The Rand Club in downtown Johannesburg has evolved over the years, moving away from being an exclusive gentleman’s club to welcoming women and children.

However, the club remains a cocoon for the social elite, proudly upholding its sophistication and decorum.

The club is suitable for weddings, conferences and other functions, with the Main Dining Room seating up to 220 guests, and number of smaller rooms available.

The building – which is richly furnished with chandeliers, antique furniture and patterned carpets – houses a library, billiards room, pubs (it’s claimed the main bar is the longest in Africa) and various dining rooms.

The attractive structure was built in 1904, on the site of two earlier editions of the club. Mining magnate Cecil John Rhodes played an important role in the location of the club, and a full-length painting of him hangs in the Rhodes Room.
