The African Craft Market of Rosebank
This bustling, high-profile indoor market at the Mall of Rosebank, on the corner of Cradock Avenue and Baker Street, is a must-see for tourists and visitors interested in exotic African artefacts.
Established in 1993, the African Craft Market of Rosebank is open seven days a week, including public holidays, and is a proud display of African entrepreneurship. Visitors can peruse local South African and other continental artworks at the stalls, which are manned by at least 70 talented craftsmen from Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Senegal and Togo, among others.
There is something for everyone at this lively market, with art, carvings, colourful caftans, beadwork, leather footwear and interior design items on offer, to name a few. The market is a paradise for shopping and leisure for both the local and international markets.
The craft market is complemented by the Sunday Rosebank Rooftop Market, voted Johannesburg’s premier market for 11 consecutive years. Everything from books to exotic delicacies and collectibles can be found at the 600-odd stalls. While browsing the wares, visitors are treated to live traditional music from different parts of the continent.
If hunger catches up with you, enjoy a meal at one of the mall’s many restaurants, or stock up on a snack from one of the food stalls at the Sunday Rosebank Rooftop Market.
