Cresta Shopping Centre
Cresta Shopping Centre is an enormous functional yet glitzy shopping extravaganza. It’s also a great hangout and meeting spot for families and teens from surrounding Randburg and Northcliff. For visitors there are three travel agencies, three bureaux de change (including American Express), pharmacies and internet and Post Office facilities. And that’s just for starters.
Built in 1976, Cresta is not far from the N1 highway and serves the ’burbs of Randburg, north of Sandton. Cresta provides a massive 94 000m² of retail therapy. It houses 243 shops on three levels and can accommodate 5 975 vehicles in both covered and open parking for eager shoppers. It has won numerous awards for excellence.
Shopper feedback lauds the centre for its variety, convenience, atmosphere and accessibility. Cresta has given shoppers an easy-going shopping experience. It remains convenient despite its size because there are parking areas next to all entrances. This aids access for physically challenged shoppers and parents with children. Wheelchairs are available for use in the shopping centre at the guest relations centre (located at entrance five, near Wimpy and Checkers). Pram and wheelchair access is comprehensive and all restrooms have disabled facilities.
Along with a variety of entertainment that includes a Ster-Kinekor Cinema, Cresta offers customers the opportunity to enjoy theatre at The Barnyard Theatre @ Cresta, where there is a restaurant to go with the live entertainment.
Cresta’s many achievements include two gold awards at the Ninth Conference of the South African Council of Shopping Centres and the Grand Prix of the Footprint Marketing Awards in 2003 – South Africa’s highest accolade for a retail centre.
Cresta was also awarded Best Shopping Centre in Joburg by Leisure Options newspaper’s Best of Johannesburg Readers’ Choice Awards 2005. It was also voted as a winner by the readers in the Best Shopping Centre category in The Star‘s Your Choice Awards 2007.
