The Benoni Country Club was founded in 1906 as a nine-hole golf course for employees of the Van Ryn Mine following the discovery of gold on the East Rand. It was expanded into an 18-hole course three years later and has, over the years, become a favourite with budding and professional golfers.

Today, the club is a multipurpose venue, offering a variety of sporting and social activities. Wildlife has been introduced to the property, and it is common to spot springbok and blesbok while you negotiate the course.

The Benoni Country Club golf course is one of the most difficult in Gauteng – the large gum trees lining the fairway make it difficult to play many shots. The course has bunkers on every hole, as well as five dams. It has five par-five holes, each over 500m.

However, the sight of game grazing near the fairway is sure to compensate for whatever golfing challenges the course may throw at you. In fact, many golfers book a round at Benoni Country Club more for its game viewing than love of the game!

While golf is the leading sport at the club, tennis, bowls and squash are also on offer. The club has three function venues, which cater for conferences, seminars, weddings, birthday parties and corporate functions.

The Benoni Country Club is one of the busiest venues in east Gauteng and is almost always fully booked with numerous events on the weekends.
